Introduction

HackRange is committed to protecting the privacy of the students and visitors who use our cyber security mentorship program. This policy explains what personal information we store, how we protect it, and the choices you have.

Information We Store

HackRange stores personally identifiable information (PII) only for students who self-enroll in our program. For those students we store exactly three fields:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address

We do not collect or store any other PII, such as addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, government identifiers, or payment card details. Visitors who browse the site without enrolling are not asked for any personal information.

How We Use Your Information

Your name and email address are used only to create and manage your enrollment, to let you sign in to the HackRange learning platform, and to contact you about your courses and the program. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

If you are in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing under the GDPR are:

  • Enrollment data (name and email): necessary to provide the program you enrolled in (Art. 6(1)(b), performance of a contract).
  • Analytics cookies: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Server security logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure, preventing abuse, and keeping it working (Art. 6(1)(f)).

How We Use Your Information

Your name and email address are used only to create and manage your enrollment, to let you sign in to the HackRange learning platform, and to contact you about your courses and the program. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

How We Protect Your Information

  • Encrypted in transit: all connections to HackRange are protected with TLS 1.3 using post-quantum hybrid key exchange (ML-KEM / X25519MLKEM768), safeguarding your data against both current threats and future quantum-capable attackers.
  • Encrypted at rest: student records are kept in an encrypted database protected with AES-256 encryption and salting.
  • Security practices: we follow National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance for securing our systems, and access to student data is limited to HackRange staff who need it to run the program.

Cookies and Website Analytics

We use only the following cookies and browser storage:

  • Strictly necessary (always on): a login session cookie (__Host-lms_session) on lms.hackrange.com that keeps you signed in, and a setting saved in your browser that remembers your cookie choice. These do not track you and do not require consent.
  • Analytics (optional, off by default): Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) that help us understand which pages are visited. Google Analytics is not loaded at all unless you click "Accept" in our cookie banner. We have disabled Google Signals and ad personalization. This data is processed by Google LLC under the Google Privacy Policy and is not linked to your enrollment record.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) or Do Not Track (DNT) signal, we honor it automatically: Google Analytics is never loaded, no analytics cookies are set, and you will not be asked.

Changing your choice: you can accept or withdraw consent at any time using the "cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing consent stops analytics immediately and deletes our analytics cookies from your browser. Your choice is remembered for 6 months, after which we will ask again. Rejecting cookies does not limit your access to any part of the site.

Other services: some page styles and scripts are delivered by the cdnjs content network (Cloudflare), which receives your IP address to deliver those files but sets no cookies. Our web servers also keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested). These logs are used to detect, investigate, and prevent abuse and attacks against our services and to troubleshoot problems, and are kept for as long as they are needed for those purposes. They are not used for marketing or to build profiles of students.

Website Analytics and Server Logs

Like most websites, hackrange.com uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from). Google Analytics uses cookies, and this information is collected and processed by Google under the Google Privacy Policy; it is not linked to your enrollment record. You can opt out using your browser's cookie settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Our web servers also keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security monitoring and troubleshooting. These logs are not used to identify individual students.

Sharing Your Information

We do not share your personal information with third parties except where required by law, such as in response to a valid court order or legal process.

Your Choices and Rights

You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, to restrict or object to its processing, or to receive a copy of it in a portable format. Email privacy@hackrange.com and we will respond within 30 days. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing that took place before.

Enrollment data is kept while you are enrolled and is deleted when you ask us to close your enrollment, unless we are legally required to keep it.

If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

International Transfers

HackRange is based in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. Where Google Analytics is used with your consent, Google may process data in the United States; Google LLC participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

Your Choices and Rights

You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it and close your enrollment at any time by emailing privacy@hackrange.com.

Children's Privacy

HackRange is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has enrolled, please contact us and we will delete the information.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
